Amber Alert issued for four Casa Grande children


On Wednesday, February 19th, 2014 at 9:15 p.m. the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by a family member of Jessica Brown. The family member was concerned Jessica was going to harm herself. Jessica told the family member before she did, that she would drop off her four children with another family member.

Copper Sky Grand Opening to be held March 15th


Maricopa's new Copper Sky Recreation Complex (Multigenerational Center, Aquatic Center and Regional Park), located off of State Route 347 and Bowlin Road, will be having its Grand Opening event on Saturday, March 15th, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The community is invited to attend this event and get a first inside look by touring the new facility. Interested visitors will also be able to learn more about the complex amenities as well as sign up for memberships; however no amenities will be available for use on this day.

Mayor and Council receive life-saving CPR instruction


The Maricopa Fire Department took this week’s City Council meeting as an opportunity to do a hands-on demonstration with the mayor and council to show how one minute of training can save a life.

The one minute presentation, led by MFD’s Senior PIO/Paramedic/Firefighter Brad Pitassi, showed the council the basic techniques involved in saving a life. The PA played 70's disco hit Staying Alive as they worked on the CPR dummies in front of them. (The song has the perfect beat for the rhythm of heart compressions required to be effective)

Strong winds, blowing dust could affect travel across Arizona today


Strong winds predicted for today could lead to difficult driving conditions along with periods of blowing dust and low visibility on highways across much of the state, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued a blowing dust advisory until 6:00 pm for parts of central Arizona, including from Phoenix to Casa Grande. Areas of blowing dust and limited visibility have already been reported along Interstate 10 near Queen Creek Road.

Council selects Rose for City Manager


Following a nationwide executive search and recruitment effort, the Maricopa City Council has selected Gregory Rose to become the next City Manager. Rose will start on February 3rd and be officially sworn in at the February 4th City Council meeting. He will lead a team of 219 employees and administer an annual budget of $187 million.

Awards to be presented to those who helped rescue girl from septic tank


This past Saturday, just before Noon, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office began to receive several 9-1-1 calls related to a 2-year-old child who had fallen into sewage/septic tank behind the Farmer’s Market located at 49301 West Papago Road, in Maricopa.

Deputies and medical personnel were immediately sent to the call.

Deadline nearing to apply for new Open Space and Trails Advisory Commission


In December 2013, the Pinal County Board of Supervisors approved a new Open Space and Trails Advisory Commission.

The commission will consist of ten members from the public, each of the five Supervisors will have two selections to the body. The members must be either a resident of Pinal County or be a business or property owner within the county.
