City celebrates tenth birthday with photo contest
The City of Maricopa is holding a digital photography contest to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the city's incorporation.
On October 15th, 2003, Maricopa became Arizona's 88th municipality. That community of 1040 residents is today a city of over 45,000! The Shutter Shots digital photo contest is designed to capture all of the beauty, nuances and charm of Maricopa and its surrounding areas during a 24-hour period. It is a day in the life immortalized through digital photography so that in 20 years there is a collection of photos that illustrate what the city looked like in 2013.
Entering the photo contest is easy and free. Photographers of every age and skill level are encouraged to venture out on Tuesday, October 15th, and take pictures of daily activities going on around the city. Participants will then drop off a CD of their three best snapshots along with a 5x7 print of each to City Hall by Noon on Thursday, October 17th.
Winning photos will be selected on criteria such as photographic excellence, visual impact and artistic quality. Prizes will be awarded for the best overall image in each of the Amateur, Professional and Youth categories.
Residents can view all of the entries during the October 19th Stagecoach Days event at Pacana Park from 4:00 to 9:00 pm.
