Due to increased traffic and travel over the Labor Day weekend, The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) in conjunction with various local and national departments will implement several traffic safety campaigns throughout the state.
In one of the campaigns, DPS Highway Patrol units will take on an integral role while assisting local departments in forming a “Safety Corridor” along I-17 between Black Canyon City and Camp Verde.

Not going out of town and looking for something to do this holiday weekend? The 3rd Annual Miss City of Maricopa Pageant is being held Saturday night.
Miss City of Maricopa is a local pageant of the Miss America Scholarship Organization. As a non-profit organization, each year Miss City of Maricopa awards nearly $2000 in scholarships to young women ages 17 to 24 for higher education. Their goal is to assist these young women in pursuing their personal and professional goals while being a role-model for service in our community.

Learn about crime prevention, child safety, and environmental awareness at Kids Day Maricopa on Saturday, September 21st.
The Maricopa Police Department will be on hand to provide FREE fingerprinting of all the children and will also have police vehicles and the K-9 unit on display. Additionally, there will be special appearances by Smokey Bear, McGruff the Crime Dog and other loved fire and crime characters.

In conjunction with Stagecoach Days 2013, the Maricopa Historical Society is holding its annual golf tournament on Saturday, October 26th!
The tournament is being held to raise money for a badly-needed museum to celebrate Maricopa's history and heritage.
The community is invited to a day of golf, fun, and prizes. The per-person tournament fee is $100, or lunch only is $25.00. Credit cards are accepted.
Registration the day of the event begins at 6:30 am, breakfast at 7:00 am, followed by a shotgun start at 8:00 am. Lunch, raffle, silent auction and prizes follow play.
The tournament will be held at The Duke at Rancho El Dorado, 42660 West Rancho El Dorado Parkway.

Maricopa residents' outdoor plans were complicated this evening when a major dust cloud rolled through town around 5:50 pm. The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for west central Pinal County until 6:45 pm.

Maricopa Community Theatre will be holding a ribbon-cutting and open house for their new facility on Saturday September 7th.
The community is invited to the event, which will run from 1:00 to 5:00 pm, to enjoy food and drink, mingling, and preview their upcoming production of "Steel Magnolias".
MCT was founded in the spring of 2010 by local resident Carrie Vargas, and has been involved in producing 17 plays and musicals between its three theatre companies: Maricopa Children's Theatre, Maricopa Teen Conservatory Theatre, and their Main Stage Company.

The National Weather Service is predicting periods of heavy rain with flooding possible, along with gusty winds, thunderstorms and the possibility of related dust storms. The expected timing of these storms is from Saturday into early next week.
There is a tropical storm system churning off the Baja California peninsula that is expected to cause these storms and periods of heavy rainfall, particularly in southern Arizona.

In response, on February 22nd of this year, the City of Maricopa filed an Application for Leave to Intervene in order to have a voice in the rate application process.
