Puppies perish in overnight house fire


Eight puppies fell victim to an overnight house in Maricopa's Heritage District, late Thursday night.

At approximately 10:15 pm, the Maricopa Fire Department responded to reports of a house fire in the 19000 block of North Condrey Avenue. Once on-scene, crews found a mobile home with smoke coming from the front door of the structure.

Tenth annual Living Nativity is this Saturday


Maricopa’s Community of Hope Church will host its 10th annual Living Nativity, this Saturday night, December 21st.

The Living Nativity is a live re-enactment of the first Christmas that includes Mary and Joseph, shepherds, angels, animals, and of course, a blessed birth.  Performances run every 15 to 20 minutes, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.

Ride for Toys event to benefit F.O.R. Maricopa


The Maricopa Fire Department is partnering with City of Maricopa, F.O.R. Maricopa and the Professional Fire Fighters of Maricopa Local 4561 to host the city’s inaugural Ride for Toys.

On Saturday, December 14th from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, at Pacana Park, 19000 North Porter Road, anyone that donates a new, unwrapped toy will receive a ride in a Maricopa Fire Department fire truck.

County supervisors approve new open space and trails advisory commission


The Pinal County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a new Open Space and Trails Advisory Commission.

The commission will consist of ten members from the public, each of the five Supervisors will have two selections to the body. The members must be either a resident of Pinal County or be a business or property owner within the county.

Newly-formed local chorus to perform first concert this weekend


Looking to get into the Christmas spirit with some good, old-fashioned caroling?  Then join the new Maricopa Chorus as they hold their first public performance this weekend!

The chorus, together with their special guests, Maricopa Music Circle, will present a free holiday concert on Sunday, December 8th, at 7:00 pm.  The show will be held at First Baptist Church of Maricopa, 18705 North John Wayne Parkway.

Two PCSO smuggling pursuits end near Maricopa


Two recent pursuits of drug and human smuggling suspects, by the Pinal County Sheriff's Office, have ended in the agricultural area south of Maricopa.  In one instance, a farm worker was assaulted.

On Sunday, December 1st, at 8:03 am, the Arizona Department of Public Safety sent out an “Attempt to Locate” after they received information regarding two or three individuals loading bundles of marijuana into a green Ford Taurus near Interstate 8 and Stanfield Road.

Board of Supervisors to begin negotiations with top candidate for County Manager (Updated)


After a nationwide search, the Pinal County Board of Supervisors has agreed to enter in negotiations with Stewart C Ed, General Services Director for the City of El Paso, Texas, as the new County Manager.

Ed, along with Interim County Manager Greg Stanley, were the two finalists for the position as voted on by the Board of Supervisors in Wednesday's meeting. After a second vote, Ed was unanimously chosen.

Hidden Valley shooting victim arrested for property crimes


A Hidden Valley man was arrested last week in connection with seven area burglaries, after seeking help for a gunshot wound, according to the Pinal County Sheriff's Office.

In the early morning hours of Tuesday, November 26th, PCSO received a 9-1-1 call from an individual who said they could hear an argument and a man yell, “kill him,” followed by a gunshot. The caller reported this occurred in the 100 block of North Primrose. The caller disconnected and did not provide a name and requested no further contact.
